OFC joining ECNL

Post by soccerschmuck on Thu Sep 11, 2014 1:21 pm

Last night I was told by someone (that is friends with an OFC board member) that OFC had applied to ECNL and they expected to be accepted and join for next season. If true this will change the soccer landscape once again.
IMO I don't see why they should not be accepted. It will acutally level the playing field here in Oklahoma. They were and still are equal to TSC and will be just as competitive in ECNL, more so at some age groups. Also if they join ECNL they will not dominate state cup anymore and it will open state up to some of the smaller clubs maybe. Here on the eastside Blitz, TSC 2nd team, NEOFC and others may have a chance at state as well as Norman, Southlakes and OFC 2nd team on the westside.

Anyone know anything about this?

I think they have applied every year. IMO it would be great for the state of Oklahoma if they were accepted. There is a lot of criteria that goes into accepting a club for ECNL, they obviously have been lacking something. Coaches, Team depth, training facility.. who knows. If they get accepted, you will see girls from NYSA and SLSC slowly migrate over there, which is what has been happening at TSCH. Does anyone know if they would have to merge (NOKC and ESC) at the younger levels for this to happen? I know the TSC and Hurricane merger which also brought the rec leagues (MTSC and BASC) together, along with ISSC training facility is what helped TSCH in 2011 get accepted.

As parent I hope this is true. I have heard the same rumor but have no first hand knowledge if true or not. The more I read about ECNL and the more it grows, it does seem like the best avenue for your top girl players. As a parent and for selfish reasons I do think this would be a great thing for the girls at OFC and I am crossing my fingers that it happens. For the club, it would also be extremely beneficial and a better recruiting tool to get the girls from other clubs to join. If it does happen you will see the girls from Norman, Southlakes, CVFC come to OFC by the first year or two of competitive if not sooner. The problem I see is if the club does not join within the next year or so it may never happen. I am afraid that if ECNL keeps growing and does prove to be the best avenue (if it hasnt proved that already) then the top girls from OFC will start migrating to ECNL clubs and once that starts I doubt OFC will ever get accepted.

That would put the Texas conference at 11 teams. Unless they're adding another Texas team it doesn't make sense.

How many teams in a conference is irrevelant. There is anywhere from 8 to 15 teams in the conferences now. Only thing that should matter is would they be competitive (yes), do they have the facilities (yes) and do they have enough quality coaches (I assume so). From what I have been told TSC has always tried to keep them out and have succeeded to this point. But this would be good for Oklahoma soccer and if TSC continues to protest this, shame on them and shame on ECNL for allowing it to factor into thier decision.

Pretty serious accusations on TSCH. Proof please.

It would be nice to see another ECNL team in Oklahoma, it would make the soccer landscape interesting!!!

I have a more likely senario. OFC couldn't get in on their own merit/history and concocted the story. However, I would like for OFC to get into ECNL, it was fun watching them come in 2nd in state cup.

Wow, typical TSC parent ego. I looked at and compared the two clubs for last three years of State competition (prior to TSC ECNL). OFC (NOKC/ESC) won 8 girls titles and TSC/Hurricanes won 10. This might not be exactly correct but close. My guess after your comments is TSC doesn't want the competition and wants to be able to maintain that they have they best girls teams at every age group in oklahoma which we all know is not true. I hope more than ever for some soccer sanity in Oklahoma OFC gets excepted. Then I think we will truly know who is best. It will be great for Oklahoma but not necessarily good for TSC, so I also do believe there is some truth to the rumor. We will never know though.
What would really be fun is a day of friendies between TSC and OFC at every girls age group. I would come out and watch that without having a kid even playing.

Easy on the personal comments, everyone (just want to make sure this stays in hand).

I think friendlies between all OFC/NOKC+ESC & TSCH friendlies would be great for soccer in the state. Do as preseason in both fall & spring, and give every participating team 2 games. Have age directors match up teams (eg, TSCH 01 # 1 team vs OFC 01 #1 team).

Glad to see the posting picking up in OK! Please dilute the already low numbered talent pool in Oklahoma by adding in a second ECNL team. It's a great idea!

Ain't gonna happen folks. Come to NTX like some of yours already do or go to TSC. The best players always end up on the best teams. Adding a second team with a state population less than here in Big D hurts you.

So there are 5 ECNL clubs from Dallas/FTW with a population of 6-7 million.
Tulsa metro has just under 1 million population (has ECNL club) and OKC metro has 1.3 million population. I think the state can support two teams. Its really more about the soccer quality and not the population anyway, granted they are indireclty related. Trust me some of clubs playing in ECNL are not near as strong as TSC or OFC and before NTX gets feathers ruffled I am not talking about Texas Conference. It may be the toughest in the country. Having said that if Oklahoma did have a State ECNl team, where all best girls in state are on one team, I do believe they would be in top third of ECNL. This will never happen though.

I would pay to see friendlies between OFC and TSC at every age group. The clubs could use it as a fundraiser! I believe if you did this though, you would see that the clubs are pretty equal.

The blitz 98,99,02,03 state cup champions now reside at TSCH. So, among the teams eligible for state cup using past state cup results including ECNL teams.TSCH-97,98,99,02,03 would be favored. OFC won 2 01&00 only once. According to the board TSCH 04 would be favored.

So the TSC 97,98,99,00 and 01 teams are also their second teams, right? 1st team being ECNL?

Don't you think that if OFC joins ECNL they will pull all the top talent in OKC metro to OFC just like TSC has done here. Assuming it would play out the same way with OFC they would be stronger then at every age group also and I really feel the clubs would be pretty equal at that point. I also think if this were to happen it would go back to the way it used to be, when girls would drive from OKC to Tulsa to be on best team and girls from here would drive to OKC to be on best team. When this happens Oklahoma might have a chance to win on the biggest stage every now and then and this would be good for all soccer in Oklahoma.

I really hope so. It would push TSCH not to get complacent. Plus, it would be good for all the OFC kids I know

Better competition in state makes better teams to travel outside the state.

This part is true. I heard it directly from the mouth of a board member from there who I know pretty well.

I don't know about the "concocted the story" part.

Heard this weekend that when ECNL was accepting TSCH they said they would not add another club for 5 years in order to let TSCH get established. It's been 3years.
