04 BOYS OPL

Post by TSCSOCCERDAD on Tue Oct 07, 2014 6:40 pm

Just wondering if there are any 04 boys parents out there and wondering how you think the season is going?

Good question.  I guess we're far enough in to begin to make some judgments.  First of all, I'm only really familiar with the 11v11 teams; and I assume that all the teams playing 11v11 are better than the teams playing 8v8 (although that may not be true at the margins).

So, of the 7 teams playing 11v11, it seems clear already that there are two tiers of quality.

First tier:  TSC-Umelo, WSA-Black, and OFC are the three premier teams in the State right now.  TSC has to be considered #1 right now.  They just finished beating OFC 5-2, and WSA 4-2 (although WSA had an own goal).  And right now I'd put WSA slightly ahead of OFC - based on their relatively better performance vs. TSC.  Of course OFC beat TSC in Beat-the-Heat . . . but WSA tied OFC in the same tournament.  Basically, too close to call!  Lots of good rivalry ahead.

Second tier:  There is a pretty significant drop down to the other four 11v11 teams (NWO, NYSA-Celtic, SLSC-Blue, and TSC-Sharp, which all seem to be pretty evenly matched.  If I had to give an edge to one, it would probably be NYSA, although NWO has played some respectable games against the top 3.

I don't see enough of the 8v8 teams to speak intelligently about how they stack up; or if any of them have a legitimate shot at challenging any of the 11v11 teams in the future.  Hopefully someone else can weigh in on those topics.

The WSA game was really good and a nice suprise. They seem to have more players than when TSC played them in Beat the Heat, WSA lost 6-0. I would give WSA a slight edge vs OFC just judging on seeing them both against TSC Umelo. However, OFC did have some really good looking players. I agree hard to tell in 8v8. TSC still has games left with WSA and OFC so can't wait for some more good games.
