Post by Soonerdad04 Sun Aug 30, 2015 1:48 pm

So I guess it's South lakes, TSC and NYSA representing Oklahoma in the 04 bracket... Good luck this weekend to everyone playing in the tourney and safe travels getting down there..

Give credit to 1 more: CVFC is going down in the OK bracket (NYSA, NYSA Pride, TSC Sharp & CVFC are 4/8 teams in Silver B).

Hopefully Norman or Tulsa can bring home some hardware in the "Oklahoma Bracket"!

I know it's hard but any predictions on how you feel your individual team will do?

I can't wait to see Griffin play after they have gelled. Hopefully they have been practicing strong since Beat the Heat and can take their "A" game to Plano.

Here is the conundrum I face. Does it really matter what this age group team does this year? It will be nice for them to "gel" as a team but reality is most teams will be "gelling" again next year. For all the "gelling" the reality is most go to a different team next year (assuming of course age pure is implemented as we think it will be). I know the arguments about playing up etc but I suspect most kids will be playing with different kids next year.

While this is not a wasted year from developmental purposes it most likely is for team chemistry issues.

If you read into it . It basically says it could happen in 2016 but doesn't have to happen until 2017. Which means in soccer terms it's going to be 2017 not 2016.

Archer, I think u and energy 04 need to get together and hug and let out all your frustrations.

I'm pretty sure we will implement the true age in 2016 especially if ntx do and going off there message board they are implementing the change in 2016.

Good luck in Plano

Here is my totally uneducated and extremely biased predictions:

Griffin goes 1-1-1 in pool play but gets the tiebreaker for the #2 seed - loses in the Qtrs to Dallas Texans 04G

SLSC also goes 1-1-1 in pool play and earns the tiebreaker as well to barely squeeze into the Quarters.  It actually eases up there and they make a run to the finals before falling to the FC Dallas Youth 04 White.
(or they could go 1-2 and I'll be crying in my beer Saturday evening)

NYSA Fury and TSC Sharp battle it out for the Silver B division title with NYSA defeating Sharp for the 2nd time over the weekend.  Both teams parents immediately wonder if they should be playing U13 in Oklahoma this year and not Griffin.  Off the record, OSA agrees.

This is the year to make a run in gold with the top 2 Texas teams playing in other locations.

Cosmos, Probably be a good idea to get that brew on ice now. You can drown your disappointment ahead of time.

Nah, I'll let it play out. SLSC made it to the semis last year and SLSC is better this year....so I'll have them available but no need to pre-plan.

I know this.  That said, NTX is going age pure next year.  They are grandfathering in the U12s (2004s) at 11 v 11.  Seems to make sense for Oklahoma to follow.   Further, if you read, its considered "best practices" to have this implemented next year.   Why wait?

My assumption is that OSA would follow suit and do the sensible thing as a NTX with the U12s. Its only practical from a competitive and business (Oklahoma and NTX teams travel extensively to each others tournaments) to seek continuity.  That said, the term "sensible" and OSA rarely go hand in hand.  Expect OSA to do the polar opposite and bungle this mess forcing all the clubs to go US Club sanctioned.

As to Archer, your obsession with me is bordering on the psychotic.  I'm truly worried about you. There are a lot of mental institutions I'm sure your familiar with that can help you through your obsessive self destructive tendencies.   I wish you the best in seeking out help with your issues Very Happy. By the way even though you have gone down this dark path you are still on my Christmas card list

Still staying with 2017. Here's my reasoning. Okla never does what Texas does. They play 11v11 starting at U9. We have always been U12. The other thing if I read it correctly is that every club will have to have uniform size of fields and goals for 4v4, 7v7 and 9v9, as regulated by us soccer. No more different size goals at every club. That equals a lot of $$$ from clubs to do that and divide their clubs into all new teams by fall. Smaller clubs have no chance of raising enough funds for total makeovers by then. Some clubs fields I've seen looks like they don't have enough funds to take care of the ones they have. You know which ones I'm talking about. I don't see it before 2017 just for practicality. I hope it 2016 though cause my kid is a January bday!

That is a good thought that i haven't given much consideration. However, given what is occurring nationwide OSA would be one of the last holdouts if they don't do it next year.

As to people discussing Plano its hard to guess who does what. Dallas clubs player pass and club pass kids frequently so its hard to tell which team your really playing. There is a team in the gold bracket we have handled easily whereas others not so much. TSC could win against teams but lose to a team they shouldn't. If they lose its possible that team may player passed kids from another good team. Same applies in all divisions. Given early season and player pass you may have a bunch of girls with the Dallas Texans South (not playing in this tournament) playing with the other Texans teams. Its how they get ranking points sometimes. I saw last year D'Feeters white team player pass 6 kids during a holiday tournament from there top team (one of the best in the nation) so of course they had more success than lets say what they had in beat the heat. Or maybe they had those kids at beat the heat, who knows. Comparing scores with Dallas teams can lead you down some crazy directions if your not careful

ENERGYFC04, where did you get that info on u12/04's being grandfathered? That's the first I have heard of anyone being grandfathered.

I have a friend who is very active in Dallas soccer community. Also, Lake Highlands has already told clubs that’s what they plan to do next year. The youth commissioner from NTX soccer association has also noted that this is what they are recommending. It’s a recommendation but it makes sense. Here is what the email for the NTX soccer commissioner says:

"One tab compares where we are now with where we need to be by 2017 on small sided soccer. The key differences for NTX are the U7/U8 age group, where we will need to move down to 4 v 4 and the U11/U12 age group where we need to move down to 9 v 9. We are recommending that we move the U7 to 4 v 4 and the U11 to 9 v 9 next year, so that when they move up to U8 and U12 the following year, they will be keeping the same playing format. Then going into 2017, everyone will have transitioned to the desired format."

Looking further, it makes sense given OSA has offered solely 11 v 11 for the 2004s this year. It does not make sense to make them revert back. Further if you look at OSA's competitive meeting notes they state that they don’t want kids “going backwards in format”. The only way to hold true to this statement is to play 11 v 11 next year at U12. Again, if necessary you can play the state tournament at 9 v 9 but I sure as heck don’t want my kid reverting back to a 9 v 9 field next year after 2 years playing 11 v 11."

Analyzing it further, if you implement age pure you almost have to offer 11 v 11 at u12. You will have almost every major club playing these teams “Up” to stick with the 11 v 11 format if you don't. It basically solves what would be a mess for years to come and makes the clubs happy. At the end of the day making the clubs and patrons happy and making this change as least painful as possible should be the desire for OSA. If they don’t they may find the majority of clubs moving to US Club sanctioning as the last years have been nothing but a mess to the point the clubs are fed up with OSA. In other words, OSA better get this right and I think they know this!
