State Academy league anyone?
Other than TSC it seems the academy side of tournaments are getting worse. Looking at some west side brackets. They are using rec. teams to fill. Academies don't support each other's tournaments. Any chance ok soccer starts an official league for academy or an end of the year tournament any time soon, or is it better unregulated?

They are trying to get an academy league going.

This spring was first shot at it. Would be nice to see more participation from west side of state.

NYSA has a academy league too. Its just hard to get parents to drive 45mins to a hour for 7-10 years soccer everyweek

You might would get a double header on game days to Tulsa or OKC and I know a lot of the parents on the eastside would make the drive.. I just don't think the drive to OKC or Tulsa would be a problem.

I'm pretty sure that the TSC academy league is picking up 2 to 3 more clubs in the fall. That would give them up to 10 clubs in their "JDL" league. It would just make since for more OKC area clubs (besides NOKC) to jump in.

Re: State Academy league anyone?
what TSCH has is recurring friendlies with other clubs, rather than a true league setup. JDL is more their "league"
what I'd like to see is a doubleheader once a month in OKC, and once a month in Tulsa; the other 2 weeks of month teams could play internal games, or go to tournaments, or play other friendlies (ie, go to Ark, Wichita). & I'd love to see an independent group run it (maybe OSA?).

Why not OSA? Academy is huge now. That's a big customer base for them. At the U9 and U10 level they are ready for it in most cases. I would like to see an academy state tournament for at least U9 and U10 at the end of the season. If OSA would run it. I think it could be an great event. It would definitely create some excitement in those age groups.

NOKC is actually one of the teams I heard would be in. There was a Wichita team and one more that I can't remember.

Re: State Academy league anyone?
Luckyone, I would first remind you that "academy" is still rec soccer. So using rec teams to fill in brackets is not necessarily a negative, when there are no u9/u10 rec plus leagues on this side of the state for the better rec teams.
Second, academy is treated as a cash cow on this side of the state. Coaches do it out of obligation at some clubs, so the kids do not get what they pay for and seek out good "free" rec teams. Until this changes, academy will be less than stellar on the west side.
Lastly, academy leagues will not go on this side, because the big 3 are worried about recruiting. It's been tried, just very unsuccessfully.

Academy is the wild wild west. Its a bastion of recruiting and failed promises by clubs and coaches alike.
The problem is this. Anything typically done by TSC and OFC will be looked upon unfavorably by other clubs out of fear and/or distrust that they are using the "academy" thing for recruiting purposes. Coaches are protective of their players and this ungoverned side of soccer presents numerous problems. Again, not bagging on any club as i don't blame them for recruiting.

Part of "club" soccer is getting those numbers, which transfers into $$ for the club. I've seen a lot of below average club players that are fresh out of academy playing u11, and can't do basic skills.
