The Parker/Blitz game will be the game of the week. I'm going to give Blitz the edge this round 2-1, but Parker teams always improve as the season goes on. I'm not being a homer but this game could be over by half time. TSC Griffin 10
WSA 0

The WSA/Griffin game'll be over long before that! Probably about the time the starting whistle blows!

Griffith didn't play well against OFC. They missed a pk and had 3 or 4 hit the post. And with the ball being intentionally kick out of bound all game long.

Lol I love it. For those of us that didn't make the game I guess we have to assume OFC didn't even have one chance to make it a 1-1 game. Who's in charge of unrealistic parent training at TSC? It seems they are falling down on their job these days!

Sooner is a Norman Celtic parent bluetooth. I was at the game and they did get a couple chances. Not real close but the goalie did have to touch the ball.

So the actual score to Blitz / Parker game was 1-0? That can't be right...They've got the most sought after youth soccer coach in all the soccer universe correct?? There HAS to be some excuses?? Ready to hear them!

That's a good win from Blitz. Parker is not a bad team. Blitz still strong as usual!

Please understand that ECNL is a great opportunity, but research indicates the younger players (especially Pre/Jr Ecnl & younger) improve more rapidly via educated training rather than a league. Also, a youth coaches prestige should not be determined by his win/loss record. Historically, our clubs have overlooked development in pursuit of a "W" at these ages. Therefore, our clubs are business before development and the parents lack of education enable this destructive system. It's important to TRAIN WITH A COACH, rather than be trained by a club. The literature is out there to educate yourselves. Produce an educated decision for your child this year and sign with a coach...not a club.
This was a great post a few months ago under a different thread but applies here as well. Hopefully parents are paying attention to the development their child is getting and not the W/L or by how many points your are winning.
Based on your previous posts you have a dislike towards Moritz and that's OK. But there are many out there that think he is doing it the right way and the numbers are growing.

I agree mostly T-town. But also realize that W/L is a direct correlation to development.

Re: OPL 2004 Weekend #3
First of all, it is appalling that we are attempting to collate teams this early in the year...these are all new teams.
Secondly, IMHO (and experience), wins and losses are not always a direct correlation to individual development at 11-12 years old. Wins and losses at this age are too often a direct correlation to coaches/clubs who prefer to win at all cost (WAAC). A WAAC coach is typically more inclined (and/or directed) to develop a winning team, not necessarily a player. The primary purpose of this technique is to attract better players, which has its pros and cons. One example is that many of these WAAC coaches isolate "potentially" great players to the bench at a young age and we rarely witness their full potential. While the WAAC coaches tend to be successful in youth sports, the youth level is presumably their ceiling.
In conclusion, we cannot accurately gauge our 11-12 year olds individual development based on wins and losses...that's only a minor component/statistic at their age.

Disagree....we are just having fun; no one takes this too serious.

Agreed......means nothing. A whole group of girls on the #2 team in the state will be sitting on the bench watch the top 1-2 players from the 4th and 5th ranked teams in the state play when they get to high school or college.

Could not agree more. Development has always taken a backseat to winning in club soccer in OK. Sure, there is a crap load of lip service about development from every club, but the reality is much different.
This is a huge problem in youth soccer, and a problem a lot of parents just don't get. Teams that lack technical ability and/or a good knowledge spacing and movement typically put their speedsters up top and then players are continually instructed to "Dump it in the Corner" or "put it behind the defense." While this can be a successful strategy to win (and certainly is a legitimate tactic to be employed at times) , if your child is a midfielder (or even a defender, really) on this type of team she is getting screwed. This type of team is the prototypical recreational team at the young ages, but is so startling common in club soccer its nuts.A WAAC coach is typically more inclined (and/or directed) to develop a winning team, not necessarily a player.
I've seen coaches of 2nd teams reluctant to let go of players to move up to top team b/c it will hurt their team. I've seen coaches so enamored by speed that they are completely blind in deficiencies in work rate, game intelligence, and technical ability. I've seen coaches preach to parents about playing a possession, technical oriented, then every decision they make absolutely flies in the face of said preaching. I've seen coaches who have players that are flat out lazy and uncoachable--unwilling to follow coaching instructions and are unbelievably disrepectful to the coach--yet the coach will refuse to cut playing time or call the player out, afraid the team might lose. Where are the good coaches? Hell, I've seen coaches of elite teams not pass along college coach inquiries to their players or parents. It is absolutely crazy that in our pay to play system, a truly fantastic coach is so hard to find. There simply aren't very many--at least on the east side of the state.

And as a follow up to my rant---every parent thinks, "Well I'm lucky we got one of the few good coaches" and "I'm happy my club is focused on development"

Re: OPL 2004 Weekend #3
It's easy to put too much emphasis on coaching and minimize other variables that contribute to development, including those controlled by parents.
Regarding the "win at all cost" discussion, my daughters have played for many different coaches and all of them have been extremely competitive and wanted to win. From my perspective, this has taught my daughters to be more competitive and thrive in competitive environments, from spelling bees to swim races. I don't see a problem with that, especially when a coach balances their lessons with teamwork and sportsmanship. The driving force behind many of the best athletes in the world is their desire to win and not lose. What's wrong with that? What's wrong with a coach instilling a sense of competitiveness to get their players to really get into what they are doing and to work harder? I say nothing. I'm not saying competitive sports are right for everyone, I'm just saying there is nothing wrong with a coach teaching competitiveness in competitive sports.

918 I think the point is winning is a goal, but it is not the #1 goal. Maybe it is not even the #2 or #3 thing at this age. From one of the earlier posts it pointed to not only winning but winning by how much. Maybe it was a joke and I just missed it.
Good job to both Parker and Blitz. Sounds like a good game.
