OSA considering bad (will affect 04's) rule change!!!!!!!!!
OSA is considering a state rule change that will not allow 04 teams to play 11v11 next year in any league. In my opinion this is a horrible rule change for any club that wants to play 11v11. There were 3-4 teams playing 11v11 in the 03 age group this year and it has been allowed for the past few years.
This is a decsion that is best left up to the individual clubs!

Do you think its because only 3 to 4 teams are playing 11v11. If OSA passes that less North Texas will come up to play in u10-u11 touraments.

Re: OSA considering bad (will affect 04's) rule change!!!!!!!!!
I wouldn't have a clue why they would make this mandatory but we were told by our club that this is true and will probably happen. It makes no sense to me and is a step backwards. My older daughter's team played up (11v11) in their first year of competative and it was great for their developlment and allowed them to go compete with the best in North Texas on a regular basis. I totally agree with soccerschmuck, this should be left to the individual teams/clubs to decide how they want to develop their teams!
OSA should not make this mandatory and leave things how they are.

Tournaments would still be able to offer whatever divisions they wish; just like now.
I've heard there may be the opportunity to petition for inclusion in u12d1. Team would have to play their way into it. May be a chance yet for a few teams.

There are 7 teams U11 11v11 playing in state cup. I dont suggest it from our experience unless your group is a top tier team. It forces the U11s to play year older girls in league for half the games. What I have seen happen is the U11s win the first game and then the U12s use ther physical strength in the second matches.
However, I think there should be exceptions made for the 2-3 U11 teams that would benefit from it. The 03 group has 2 teams that would be an exception for 11v11 this year.
The others should of been 8v8 IMO.

I agree that a state board mandating who can play what seems a little over the top when talking about a sport you pay to play. However, fewer players should equal more individual touches. More touches should equal more individual development. It seems like it is give-and-take between individual development at the expense of team development or the other way around if you are pushing 11v11.

I'd heard something about that last week; wasn't 100% confident so I didn't say anything.
I'm still not 100%, but am now >70%. So passing grade, lol.
They really should have already settled this, as tryouts are starting today (weather permitting).

Re: OSA considering bad (will affect 04's) rule change!!!!!!!!!
The latest I'd heard was that the top team from each club will be allowed to play in OPL I 11v11. The rest, 8v8. But I'm like you, not 100% sure on this. What had you heard? And this was just decided, supposedly...Who knows?

Re: OSA considering bad (will affect 04's) rule change!!!!!!!!!
1) U11 11v11 will be an option. OPL2 and Classic/OPL3 will be 8v8
2) playing up by "self-selection" will be an option -- OPL1 in the upper age group
3) PLW teams will have to play OPL D1, unfortunately
4) Single extended season from Sep to Mar
I've seen the OSA email with my own eyes.

OFC 04's were also told that we will be playing 11v11 in OPL next year, so I guess they did decide against the rule change, thank goodness!
