OPL this weekend Empty OPL this weekend

Post by oksoccer Wed Sep 24, 2014 2:57 pm

OPL back at it this weekend, thoughts?

Saturday
OASC OK ARSENAL 04G vs OKLAHOMA FOOTBALL OFC 04       OFC 7-0
CLINTON FUSION 04  vs TSC HURRICANE 04 WINTERS           Winters 6-0
TUSC BLITZ UNITED 04 GIRLS vs SOUTH LAKES COSMOS 04 BLUE    Blitz 2-0
Sunday
TSC HURRICANE 04 WINTERS vs TUSC BLITZ UNITED 04 GIRLS   tie 0-0
OKLAHOMA FOOTBALL OFC 04 vs CLINTON FUSION 04                OFC 10-0
TSC HURRICANE 04 KITTERMAN vs OASC OK ARSENAL 04G         Kitterman 7-0

Blitz games should be interesting to see how they stack up in top 5.  The rest will be snoozers.

Agree with most of your picks, given a point here or there...Will be interesting to see SL Cosmos vs Blitz...to see how SL stacks up. Also think Blitz beats Winters 2-0...however, would be the first time!

I think the OFC games will be as much as the coach wants the girls to score; same w/ Winters on Saturday & Kitterman on Sunday.

I think SLSC ties Blitz, 1-1

The Sunday matchup b/t Blitz & Winters will be the 2nd game for those teams to play without their girls studying in Madrid (3 Blitz, 1 Winters I believe)...whichever coach has better prepared their team will win, IMO. Going to say 1-0 Winters.

Yeah, could go either way, but just can't help feeling this game will be Blitz's to lose. 10 and 11 year old girls have a way of confounding predictions, though, don't they?! Just seems that they are playing better than Winters right now, but, on the other hand, Winters has the definite psychological edge here...
As for OFC, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't run up the score, for a number of reasons. The most prominent being goal differential for end of season calculation. Is there a limit in OPL as to how many they will count for GD? I hope so.

There isn't, as best as I can tell. Last spring in u14 girls D1 Standings OFC 01 & Blitz 00 tied their game, and tie-breaker went to goal differential.

Currently the goals for listed for u11g isn't capped, so I don't think it has changed.

Definitely interested in seeing how close or far SLSC is from the Tulsa teams. Is it 0-2 goals with 40/60 possession or 3+ with 20/80 possession?

If you're talking about Blitz/SLSC, then I honestly have no clue....have seen some game history with SLSC that indicates they are pretty good, and some that they are just average...factor in the 10/11 year old girl factor, and I have no prediction.
If talking about Winters/Blitz, then I would predict 2-0 Blitz win with 80/20 Blitz possession favored. As someone noted, both teams have girls gone, but the one gone for Winters is supposedly a more key player. Not necessarily the same on the Blitz side, from what I hear. So advantage Blitz. Again, who knows? Should be fun to see what happens!

If bird04 is correct about Winters girl then I change my Blitz/Winters prediction to Blitz 2-0 as well.

Surprising (to me anyway), SLSC beats Blitz 1-0 today.

Heard from Cosmos parent who said their girls did not play well and didn't deserve the game. However, she said they had 2 starters gone and one starter playing sick. The starters gone were part of their midfield. She said they scored a late goal. Said their coach was very unhappy at how they played.

Blitz dominated the game 99% of the time. Their goalie didn't touch the ball one time first half and only twice the second half (neither were shots, just came into the box). Blitz hit the crossbar a couple of times and had tons of chances, but simply failed to put the ball in the net. SL got close enough for one shot and made it. Blitz had one sub to SL's 4 subs and were gassed by the end. Can't wait for the rematch.

True. Possession to blitz. That said we had our top scorer gone. Another possession starter gone and forward sick. IMO blitz had one good shot on goals but all other shots were challenged. By far our worse game of the season from energy to how we played. Per child coach felt this way too. Lots of kids out of normal position as well due to circumstances. Thankfully our D line was there and healthy.

We had subs but some were player pass from 2nd team.

Odd game but proud of the girls for playing through adversity. Plus thinking 2.5 hour travel (wreck on turnpike) makes these road games hard.

Pretty suprised at this outcome. I figured SLSC was in for a 2-3 goal loss.

Did Blitz have players missing? 1 sub is pretty light but it seems Tulsa teams may like it that way.

Regardless, I think SLSC isnt a team you can sleep on. They will just get better playing the Tulsa teams consistently. 04's are going to be fun to keep an eye on.

Heard Blitz had a bunch of shots bounce off the posts and SLSC had one good shot that happened to make it in...any truth in that of just wishful thinking on Blitz's part?

Blitz did not hit several off the post.  Take an ugly win versus pretty loss

Sounds like a lot of whine and cheese coming from east side. Blitz lost. Cosmos won with with less than a full roster. Deal with it. If Cosmos win against winters next week they have set themselves up to finish top 3 in league because only tough travel game they have left is Kitterman. OFC is not much a travel game for them.

Could it be only 1 East side team in top 3 this fall? West side still playing catch up in 11 v 11 games to east side too. Interesting developments. However, 10 year old girls. It could all fall apart for any team in a moments notice

Yes, blitz hit at least 2 off crossbar and missed about 20 other shots. Had they come ready to shoot the game could have easily been 3 or 4-0, but they didn't . They lost the game themselves by simply not making their shots count. SL had ONE shot the entire game and they made it count, kudos to them. Blitz also had 4 girls missing. Not whining, just stating the facts. In my opinion Kitterman and OFC should have no trouble beating them.

Lol, we were missing two of our mids and our starting forward was sick. U guys air mailed two shot over goal and if u call those other shots shots, then I don't know what to say except those kind of "shots" will never go in on our keeper, she's a stud. U guys did play better than we did, I'll give u that, possession 75 to 25 but our coach caught a flaw in yalls defense towards the end and we capitallized on it. U guys are a very good team and I can't wait till the rematch and hopefully everyone is healthy. I have watched ofc play guys and there is not a lot of soccer being played on the field, they are overly aggressive and if u stay wide and play into space u will catch them out of position. It's going to be a great season.

Before anyone gets to cocky it's a long season. Blitz should acknowledge it's a tough loss and they got beat. You never want to lose on your home field. In my experience it's tough for 10 year old girls to drive for hours and step out and just play. It's part of the learning process. Give credit to Cosmos they found a way to win and now sit in very good position in this young season. Add to it they dad with some 2nd team players and with sick kid they should get props. Should they travel and win against Winters next week then they are for real. I saw them against a good 03 Norman team and they dominated game yet lost.

If Cosmos come out their next 4 games 2-1-1 that means the only tough road game left is Kitterman. At this age home field matters when OKC and Tulsa travels to each other. Plus OFC and Cosmos end the year with easy last 4 games

They should win against Winters...they're missing their top player. ((Winter's also currently in a slump...but if they pull out, could be a good game. Today's game with Winter's should be a good indicator)). She's gone for the same reason Blitz had 3 of the 4 players missing yesterday (overseas study). It'll be interesting how they do against a very, let's say, "physical" OFC team and against Kitterman. Also, the rematch with SLSC should be fun to watch when both teams have all their players and no excuses for poor play, etc..from either team!Very Happy

OFC up 8 or so to nothing before halftime. OSA needs to look at this self selection. Any word on Blitz score?
