Tryout Surprises

Anything so far?

I am curious too.....I wonder how the 5-500 SLSC girls did on their first night at OFC tryouts.

They did great. Camp over Tuesday. Looking forward to Wednesday night tryouts.

We had a few suprises (good ones at that)

and this is the key. Player movement. From B to A to club to club. U11 and U12 are still formative years in soccer where development is ever changing. It will be interesting to see what player movement occurs, roster sizes and development off of second teams.

Remember, the addition of a couple of good players and subtraction of players who struggled can make an average team a contender and the wrong move can make a contender average.

Yes I'm brilliant I've been involved in youth soccer a long time. I've seen in Dallas to Kansas that these "great" U11 and U12 teams often struggle in later years. Why? Several teams in this age can win based upon sheer athleticism. I've seen it (particularly in Dallas) where the best U11 and U12 teams have 80% of the roster made up of August - September birthdays. Also, some clubs want to recruit the skilled players versus developing them so they attempt to win with ugly soccer at these ages. At the end of the day, the best teams at u13 - u15 will be those who have developed a core group who play the right way and are highly skilled. I promise you, the speed athleticism and strength disparity lessens as they age and those who learned to play the right way at young ages will reap the benefits.

With that said, the analysis for Oklahoma is what teams are trying to develop and do things the right way versus what clubs are playing ugly soccer in order to win?

No ugly soccer here my friend. Just a fortuitous combination of athleticism and skill and soccer IQ. Will ride it while it lasts...Gaps do narrow over time.....

Cosmos04's post...is the poster child of what NOT to post on a message board. THE WORST PART OF YOUTH SPORTS IS......wait for it....you guessed it...the PARENTS.

Wow is right. I bet OFC is glad Cosmos04 daughter didn't try out with them. Or did she and just not make it?

How many SLSC girls defected to OFC? Do I see some bitterness?

I also agree, horrible to bash and 11 year old because she left for a better team or for any reason!

Cosmos04 wasn't bashing any kids. We wish any girl who thinks its in her best interests to move the best. With that said, we are extremely excited with what is occurring at tryouts and look forward to next year.

Regardless of who went where - let's hope both OKC teams have upgraded entering next season. 1 win and 1 tie respectively leave a lot of work to be done on the west side......

Really...let it lie. Shouldn't have been said, but he retracted and apologized. Why stir up grief and cause even more anger? No positive there that I can see.

Major movement over here, BTW. Teams will be finalized at TSC and I doubt any good ones left over will stay for lower teams at TSC, so probably movement to Blitz for quite a few of 'em. We'll see, but that would seem to be the smart move...big talent drop off between the tops and the bottoms...will change over time, but will take a year of playing with better girls, etc...

OFC picked up the SLSC goalie and a mid/forward (I'm not sure what he was talking about with mid/forward because she started when we played them and is a nice player) plus two other changes. So, we will go into next year with four new players. Looking forward to next season.

Is TSC 1st team playing up next year or will we get to play you? Hope you stay in our league but couldn't blame you if you played up.

Last week I saw a guy looking at my wife inappropriately. I called him on it and he quickly apologized and said he was sorry and that he had a momentary lapse of judgment. I was still mad so I followed him home to see where he lived. The next day I went to his house and told his wife what a piece of garbage he was. Later that week, I went by again and slashed his tires. But I think today I am going to be the bigger man and finally let it go....

On a less ridiculous note, good luck to both girls. I have gotten to know them both over the past two years and they are both high quality kids! They will be missed.

I think we'll try and play up, but no final decisions made, as far as I know. I'm a low one on the totem pole!

OFC's season to win if Kitterman moves up. Blitz will take a season to gel and get some players up to speed so that's an unknown. Parker (old Winters team) also has to be seen as a favorite...one of 'em wins it. Griffin (old Kitterman) will have to play up into the OPL 2 division first if they make the move, so we'll see if that happens. Everyone have a great summer! Ours begins after next weekend. Hopefully we'll do well in SuperCopa...at least we now have a full roster for that NTX heat!

Did u guys pick up number 14 from the winters team?
