Best coaches in the Tulsa area Empty Best coaches in the Tulsa area

Post by 918SoccerMom Wed Apr 27, 2016 4:52 pm

Which club has the best coaches? With my daughter moving to 04 I am wanting to weigh the options available. Basically where can we get the most bang for our bucks?

The cost of the competitive clubs in Tulsa (or in all of OK for that matter) are virtually the same. The only difference you'll see in the monthly dues is based on the amount of tournaments your team attends. The more tournaments you do the higher the monthly price and increases the overall cost due to travel. With that being said, I bet your top 4-5 Tulsa are teams are probably within $20 a month of each other.

Now as for coaches, it depends on what you're looking for. Blitz has a really good coach in the 04 group and TSC has a couple as well. I would also say that the coach for Sheffield Black has been doing a good job developing players. I really like that Blitz practices 3x a week compared to the normal 2x a week. That extra practice day really adds up in terms of touches over the year. Blitz does a good job developing girls while at the same time being very competitive. TSC has a good program and is quite organized. But they also have a very large 04 player pool, so be sure your daughter is on the right team for her ability level. I believe Amos is the best coach in the 04 TSC group. He seems to focus on development and doesn't hold girls back from advancing unlike several other coaches in that TSC group. I should also mention that there have been rumors of a stud coach coming over to Blitz to work with the 04 girls. IF that holds true, I'd take a long look at that team. This guy's credentials smoke everyone else in the age group.

But again, it really depends on what you're looking for or need: competition vs development. If your daughter still needs time to mature before making the top team focus on development. If she's already at that level go for competition. Go talk to the coaches at TSC and Blitz. See who you're more comfortable with.

My wife's cousin has a daughter that plays for Sheffield Black. Macklin seems like a good coach and they have a solid core.

There's a forward from WSA that's a nice player and I hear she's moving there next year to be closer to home.

If you land on one of the top 04 teams at TSC, they won't do much individual skills type stuff at practice. They are (apparently) expected to handle that on their own in private training. It's pretty much all team oriented tactical type stuff at this age on the upper teams anyway. You might get a little work in on shooting here and there, but lots more small sided scrimmages. Other clubs may differ. Anyone know how blitz 04 Mitchell runs his practice?

Depends on your daughters skill level. This was my daughters 1st year at TSC and she is playing with more confidence than before. You should have to say who your daughter plays for first so we know how to take your comment. So much bitterness. Its entertaining.

From what I know of Blitz girls practices, they currently practice 3x a week. They focus on skillwork and touches more than the tactical side. They've also started doing game film review as one of the practices so that the girls can actually see what they're doing on the field. The folks that I know that train with Mitchell all really like him.

I think he might be the only good top tier competitive coach that really works on player development. His team was dropped to OPL II due to continuity at the beginning of the year. So with basically a brand new team he goes undefeated in OPL II, wins a few good tournaments, and is competitive in OPL I. Sounds like he's a pretty solid coach.

Different girls react differently to different coaches. Some girls need more of the tactical coaching because they are stronger in skillwork and touches. I wouldnt ask this board for any advice. Go to some practices and see where your daughter fits best. You will get TSC haters and Blitz haters on this board and a few who think they know whats best for other peoples kids. If you think your daughter is able to play at the highest level then ECNL is where you want to be. Much more exposure than you will get at other clubs. And no I do not have any daughters who play on an ECNL team nor do they want to. They play where they feel comfortable and are challenged. Again never ask this board for advice. Lots of bitter people who really have no clue.

I must start off by saying,  I'm not taking a dig at anyone's child and wouldn't do that.   However,  I feel Robbie does a great job to add on to roughneck04.  Keeping it in perspective.  He has 2 players from the original top team he received (and 1 of those 2 is the goalie).  This years teams consist of 1 player from blitz 2nd team last year and the rest are from Blitzs 3rd team last year,  TSC's 3rd team and one rec player.   So to simply say he has a brand new team is drastically understated and to have THIS team competing is a credit to coaching.

I do agree with oakie75 though,  you have to find what is best for your daughter and what she responds too.

However,  is hard to argue this particular coach's coaching ability when you consider what I've stated above.   Not going to slam any other coaches, because that's not my intent.   I'm just explaining why I think he is a good one.   Hard press to find another Coach with almost an entire roster of 3rd team and rec players and that Coach have any success like he has.

I think he is a great Coach and yes that is a biased opinion.  To say he has done a great job coaching with this 04 group, is a fact and not a biased opinion.

What the hell are you talking about? I give props to a TSC, Blitz, and Sheffield coach and it all biased opinion? Sorry Oakie75 but don't use words you don't understand. Here I'll help you out with this one:

bi·as
ˈbīəs/Submit
noun
1.
prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair.
"there was evidence of bias against foreign applicants"
synonyms: prejudice, partiality, partisanship, favoritism, unfairness, one-sidedness;

Again I was talking well about 3 different coaches and clubs. Someone specifically asked about the Blitz 04 coach and I gave the person the truth to the best of my knowledge. It's not my fault that you are carrying a grudge against Blitz and obviously this coach. I don't even know you but your "bias" is showing its ugly head. Suspect

Good job backtracking.  When you say "LOL Roughneck" I have every right to think you are specifically talking to me.  Maybe I need to put the definition of specifically up next cause you're obviously not doing well with your word selection tonight. bom

Not meaning to cause bitterness, just looking for honest opinions so when we make the rounds at tryouts I can gauge the coaches personality. Are they trying to sell me or is this really their true persona. Trying to get an idea of who might be Jekyll & Hyde-ing it so to speak. She currently plays for a smaller club. She has the potential to be a  good player and needs a coach that can coax her out of her incredibly self critical shell. She is a type A personality all the way. What does not work for her are coaches that yell/shriek instructions from the sidelines or allow parents to do the same. She responds better to those who calmly express instructions. Otherwise the coach gets the f you stare.  Not looking for her to be on a top team at the moment as I want her to continue to develop her personal drive for what she considers perfection.  Her goal is to be as good with the ball at her feet as Messi. Biased mom here but she is awesome with close ball control, just needs that confidence boost that should come in a year as girls reach that next level of maturity. Wanting to know which coaches to consider to help her develop so I can make sure those coaches see her at tryouts.

918SoccerMom - Oakie75 is right. It is hard to trust anonymous recommendations on this forum because they are likely affiliated with a particular club or team trying to recruit. You can run a search on some of the coaches mentioned above to see what past players really think of them.

I have an 04 daughter at TSC and she will be playing in the 03 age group in the fall. I would be happy to give you my advice as someone who no longer has any skin in the 04 game. Based on your description that you would like to find a non-yelling coach that calmly express instructions, you can cross most of the coaches mentioned above off your list. I would check out 04 Amos. He has a calm, relaxed approach and the parents do too. Hope this helps.

918 is right, it us hard to trust what you read. Fubar is also correct in that there is a lot of poop in here.

However, in this particular topic, it's hard to see anything as factual since most responses in this subject will be drawn from personal experiences, good or bad. Not everyone hides which cub they are affiliated with. Obviously, 918soccer is TSC and obviously I'm with Blitz. We both gave or opinions with you knowing both our views may be slanted. He gave his view on Amos, and I can't agree or disagree because he/she is likely drawing off personal experience like i have.

However, Mike Moritz, is worth looking into four your 04 daughter. Can't speak to his coaching other than what I've seen from a distance while he's coaching his high school boys. But the times my daughter trained with him, his demeanor was great. He also has a pretty good resume.

Again, all opinion, your simply going to have to talk to these coaches yourself and SOME parents. All i would suggest when reading this forum is beware of those that feel the need to pull others down to lift their situation up. If a person's situation is that good, they should be able to express that without demonizing another situation. I shouldn't have to sale you that TSC is the devil to make Blitz look glorious and vice versa.

They should go to the younger ages. TSCH already has a majority of the talent in those age groups and for the players that age if you want to play college soccer and be seen by coaches then those players not at TSCH will want to move there over the next 1-2 years. The trend for most better D1 schools is to make their offers by spring of their sophomore year (Many happen summer before their sophomore year). It is early and not very far off for these age groups.

They already have some pretty good coaches in younger age groups. Kepley and Parkinson are pretty good. Plus Moritz is going to be pretty involved in the academy program. I hear Majka is pretty good coach also and he's in the younger age groups. Keply, Parkinson, Majka and Moritz is a good start.

I think someone once said that its still (even at U12 and U13 despite popular opinion) about getting better and development. Its also about style and play. There are certain coaches i would never let me daughter play for because of the style the team plays and my personal belief that that particular style will not lead to development and successful soccer in the long run.

All i can say is research research and talk to the coaches. Look at their past history and attempt to get as objective as you can opinions on their demeanor on the sidelines and how their kids play the game.

Don't know much about Griffin at TSC. Heard good and have heard bad. Parker I'd avoid. I think Robbie is really good at younger ages. His practices are always moving and he teaches skill pretty good. Just don't know how long you get him or if your next coach will be any good. Don't know about any other Tulsa area clubs.

Griffin's good. And actually, if you don't want a yeller, Parker is, too. Don't believe everything you hear on board. Sounds like the new Blitz guys very good, by what is posted. And Amos has a good track record. Bear in mind, sometimes its a good thing to push your daughter out of her comfort zone, but you know her best and I'm sure you'll make the right decision. Good Luck!
